Tohru Honda was no stranger to hardship. Her Father had died while she was little and then when she was in high school. She had went to stay with her grandfather, however he wanted to renovate the house. While this was being done he was going to stay at his daughters house with her family. He asked her if she had a friend to stay with and not wanting to impose upon anyone she said yes even though she had no intentions of asking one of her friends to have to take care of her. They already had enough going on as it was without the added worry of her. So Tohru headed out the forest with a tent. If she could just take care of herself for a few months then she new that she could keep everyone happy.
By chance she ended up stumbling upon the Sohma household. It was owned by Shigure Sohma who happened to be the cousin of Yuki Sohma who she knew from high school. He was so popular there that he was not only called The Prince but he had his own fan club that held about half of the girls in the high school. Somehow before she knew it she was invited to live with the Sohma's as there housekeeper. However that family has a dark secret.
The Sohma family is under a curse that they have protected and kept private for generations. When embraced by a member of the opposite sex the cursed members change into an animal from the Chinese zodiac. When Tohru stumbles upon their secret the Sohma house and family will be changed forever. Tohru must then promise to keep all a secret of face the consequences of her actions.
Things take a more interesting turn as more of the Zodiac members come into her life. Between the severe rivalry between certain members and the jealously over her presence the household is anything but calm and normal. But even with as much as she needs them and they need her, just how long will she be allowed to stay?
