Inu-yasha
Inu-yasha is the human/demon half-breed hero of the story even if he isn't always so heroic. He is foul tempered, easily angered and not so good at understanding female feelings. Born of a human mother and a dog demon, who just happened to be the lord of the western lands, Inu-yasha had a rough time growing up. He didn't really fit in or belong anywhere. Humans feared him and demons despised him.
To try and overcome his shortcomings thanks to the mixed heritage Inu-yasha sought out the Sacred Jewel. It had the power to transform him into a full demon. However in finding the sacred jewel he found more than he bargained for. The caretaker of the jewel was a young priestess named Kikyo. While from two different worlds in society the two developed strong feelings for each other and finally came to realize they were in love. But that didn't last like either had hoped.
The vile demon Naraku came up with a plan to steal the jewel from Kikyo and taint it with malice, making it even more powerful in the process. He tricked the two into thinking that each had betrayed the other which lead to a vicious showdown between the two. Inu-yasha was trapped and bound to the sacred tree by Kikyo's sacred arrow. A spell that was supposed to last for eternity. Kikyo tragically lost her life from the severe wounds that had been inflicted upon her shortly after.
After 50 years of being trapped a young girl named Kagome somehow broke the seal and freed Inu-yasha from the tree. Through the series it appears as if slowly Inu-yasha may once again learn to open up his heart and to love again if he can just get rid of the haunting memory of Kikyo whom Kagome reminds him of. While Inu-yasha longs for revenge on Naraku, his love for Kagome and the countless obstacles set forth by Naraku himself aren't the only things that stand in his way. He may just be able to accomplish his goal if his older brother Sesshomaru doesn't kill him first.
