Raised by his step mother, Gojyo had a harsh childhood. While he loved his mother unconditionally it seemed there was nothing he could do to gain her love in return. This was due to the fact that his father had been married to this demon woman when he in return took a human lover and ended up producing a child. Being that child the mere site of Gojyo would send his mother into tears.

He would have done anything to ease her suffering including letting her kill him with her own hands. For when it came to a point she could take it no longer that's exactly what she tried to do. If it was not for Jien, Gojyo's full-demon, half-brother, she would have done just that. To prevent such a fate from coming to his brother Jien took the life of his own mother. Then burdened with grief he left without Gojyo ever knowing what happened to him or where he went.

Not to say that the rest of Gojyo's childhood was kind either. He was plagued by the fact that he was half-demon and half-human. A thing that was considered taboo. The children born of such parents are all said to have red hair and crimson eyes, which gives Gojyo away easily to those who know what it means. However being only half-demon he doesn't have to wear a demon power limiter like the full blooded demons do.

Personality wise he is a nice enough guy if you overlook his lechery. If its one thing Gojyo likes its his vices, Drinking, smoking and women. He gets through life making money off of playing card through the day and taking women home at night. While he knows its not the most noble of an existence it gets him through as he tries to forget the horrors that lay within his past.
