As the story starts out we meet our hero, Yusuke Urameshi, only he is not what one would expect. He is a feared delinquent with a bad attitude. He skips school, he beats people up and he has a general lack or respect for others. But what is even stranger is that fact that right off the bat Yusuke get killed. However his story does not stop there. Through a strange twist of fate he is thrown into the spirit world where he finds out that they have others things in mind for him that don't involve dying, In fact he is given a second chance, that. That is if he can complete the task at hand without getting himself killed.

While its a bumpy road and he doesn't quite succeed in the way he thought he was supposed to he finds his second chance given to him under one condition. He is charged with the task of becoming the spirit Worlds next Spirit Detective. This means it is his job to seek out and capture rouge demons who are on the loose in the world of the living. A job that sounds easier than it truly is.

With a little training from his newfound wise master Yusuke begins to see his true potential. However this only seems to bring on new problems and new dangers. Even with his friend Kuwabara by his side to help him out its a difficult and dangerous task before him. His life is turned completely upside down and inside out. Those who were once foes are even brought in to help his fight, whether he thinks he can trust them or not. And with all his running around to save the world and the people he cares about, the biggest task of all may just be keeping himself alive.
