Kurama aka: Shuichi Minamino or Youko Kurama
While Kurama may look human he is far from it to say the least. In reality he is a demon who has been alive for over 300 years. He had been the legendary bandit Youkou Kurama, the spirit fox. However a blotched burglary left him running for his life. In a desperate attempt to not get caught and to save his life he entered the womb of a pregnant human and took over her baby with a successful merging that ended in her bear him for a son.
Kurama was able to successfully hid out in the human world as her son Shuichi Minamino. He had planned to only stay in that body until he had recovered enough to return to his former self. However the merging was so complete that he found himself unable to separate from the human body that he now had. But even so it was a perfect way to hide. That was until someone else found out his secret.
Knowing the truth Hiei was able to force Kurama into joining him as a thief. That was the first step to meeting the Spirit detective. Once helping Hiei they gained a lot of attention and the Spirit Detective was sent to bring them in and recover the items stolen. While Kurama was not interested in keeping what he had took or using it for evil he requested just enough time to try and save his human mother who he felt he owed. After that he would willingly surrender.
However once Yusuke helped him he felt the need to return the favor and even went against Hiei to help with his capture. But a cage was not what Koenma had in mind for Kurama or Hiei. They eventually were sent to help Yusuke and develop the bonds of friendship that have proven to be invaluable.
