Yusuke was never exactly what one would call a good role model. But juvenile delinquents never are. He was possible one of the worst and most feared students in all of Sarayashiki Junior High. It seemed he was gone from school more than not and when he was there he was always getting into some form of trouble.

He was brash, brazen, rude, arrogant and had little respect for those around him. This of course was the exact sort of attitude that helped him into more altercations than one could shake a stick at. Not that it bothered him. He was easily one of the toughest kids around and has no problem when it comes to defending himself. He is so good in fact that its seems every one has heard of the legendary Yusuke Urameshi's reputation.

But in spite of all that Yusuke is a very nice person deep down. He is just misunderstood and without the knowledge of how to act with people. His home life is a wreck with an alcoholic mother who doesn't seem to care. His teachers are quite literally out to get him and hound him relentlessly and half of everyone else around seems to want a piece of him. For the most part he leads a lonely and miserable existence. If it wasn't for Kayko there would seem to be no one on his side.

But one he is charge with being Spirit Detective things slowly begin to change. He is given a new focus in life and a way to not only be important but to grow as a person. The lessons he learn become most valuable and the people he meets become very crucial to his life. While things do not become perfect and problems still exist for Yusuke he is actually able to find his own way.
