- One-Shot - A One-Shot fanfiction is a fanfiction that is only one chapter long. The plot, while short, can be surprisingly deep is the author is skilled enough. Most Dream Fics and Songfics and all Drabble are One-Shot.
- One True Pairing (or OTP for short) - A phrase used by Shippers and Barbieshippers to refer to their preferred Pairing.
- Original Character (or OC for short A. K. A. Non-Canon Character (or NCC for short)) - An original character (NOT a Mary Sue) created for a fanfiction. The two sexes of them are generally referred to as Original Male Character (or OMC for short) and Original Female Character (or OFC for short).
- Original Fanfiction - A misleading term, as there is technically no such thing as original fanfiction. The term loosely applies to fanfiction that takes the basic plot devices and character sketches from an established canon and is then put into an otherwise completely original plot. More common among anime and manga fans.
- Orphan Plot Bunny - A Plot Bunny that a fanfiction author has finally given up on.
- Orphan Story - A fanfiction whose author decided not to finish it for whatever reason.
- Oscaroid - A fanfic about the relationship (often sexual) between a human and a cat. The term comes from an infamous fanfic titled "Atemis' Lover" where the author, Oscar, is a hermaphrodite and has sexual relations with the male white cat from Sailor Moon of the same name as the title. They are more common then you think.
- Out Of Character (or OOC for short) - A term that applies to a canon character in a fanfiction that is acting nothing like they do in the canon. An example would be Toboe from Wolf's Rain being all cynical, bitter, and serious. Happens in alot of fanfictions, as many fanfiction authors either don't bother to correctly portray the canon characters In Character, or they don't know the characters well enough to pull it off.
