How to Spot Bootleg/Pirated Plush Toys

Now we all like a good Plushie but how do we know we have a legitimate one? Again run for the old standby of checking for the licensing and copyright info. These can normally be found on a label or tag located somewhere on the Plush. If any of these things are missing or incorrect then you may not want to buy it. Things can cost too much to spend on a product that is not even official.

With that check out of the way you need to know what else to look for. Check the quality of the item. Look at the little details all over the cute little thing, not so cute in some cases, and see how well it looks. Granted there are a lot of official plushies that tend to not look quite right but pirated ones can look even worse. Run your hands all over the plush to feel the fur or the material it happens to be made from. How does it feel? Does it feel cheap, too rough or even look like a low quality or bargin fabric? If so, not a good sign. Now look at the stitching. Are the stitches small and uniform? Do they hold the seems of the plush together tightly and properly? If not things may be looking even worse for you poor little doll. Also look to see if anything looks drawn on with a marker or painted on by hand. You likely can count without prompting just how many official, mass-produced plushies are detailed by hand. The answer you thought of there should be, none. These area all good ways to spot a fake and keep those cute little fakes from draining your wallet.
