How to Spot a Bootleg/Pirated VCD

This again is very tricky to spot the real from the fakes. Its entirely to easy to make one of these and for very little money therefore making them a prime market. There are still some legitimate VCDs out there thought not near as many as they used to be.

Very few anime VCD imported from anywhere anymore are legitimate, more often than not they will be pirate copies. There are still some legitimate live action movie and anime VCDs in area's where the format was fairly popular. Like audio CDs, video CDs are easy to copy making them a prime target for pirates. Now companies like Manga Entertainment and Central Park Media did produce some VCDs with an English dub or English subtitles, but they are very hard to find now. Since the quality of VCD is poor compared to that of a DVD, you are a lot more likely to encounter a pirate VCD than an official one. Therefore if you don't want burnt on these you may want to avoid the VCD format unless you are 100% sure it's the real deal.
