Terra Branford
Terra is the central pillar around which the main story revolves. A unwilling solider of the Empire, she is freed from her forced servitude by the actions of the Esper Tritoch and ends up joining the Returners, much to her bewilderment.
Much of Terra's backstory in unknown, even to her. When you first meet her at the very beginning of the game, her name is just a row of question marks. As the game progresses, her memories begin to return as she discovers her heritage and her capacity to love, something that she harps about through most of the first half of the game. Meek and shy, she has no inkling of how to interact with those around her, yet at the same time she is wary of asking others for assistance for reasons that will become clearing in the game.
In battle, Terra's natural gift of magic packs quite a punch. The first person you meet with the ability to use magic, she is the most powerful spellcaster you will get. Once she gains control of her powers, she can morph into her Esper form, which doubles her magical attack power. She can also use a variety of swords and daggers, and her physical attack strength is quite high.
