When we first meet Tidus the games hero he is not exactly the heroic type. He is whiney, immature and sometimes down right annoying. But such is youth and as with any good story he does slowly grow and develop over the course of the game into not only a more well rounded fellow but someone you actually feel for.

Tidus starts off in Zanarkand where he is the star player of the Zanarkand Abes. Like it or not the apple did not fall far from the tree. His father was also a star blitzball player before he disappeared. While Jeckt, his father, was adored by all Tidus did not share in everyone else's enthusiasm towards his father. You may even say he felt a sense of hatred towards Jeckt. This fact is only compounded by the shadow of Jeckt constantly looming over him as a star blitzball player.

However Tidus's life is thrown a huge curve when an unknown phenomenon rips through Zanarkand destroying everything in its path. During the chaos and turmoil all around Tidus crosses paths with his friend and mentor Auron and together face the unknown enemy ahead to be transported into an adventure unlike any Tidus had ever seen before. Along the way he not only finds more skill as both a fighter and a blitzball player, but he also finds love and the courage to face the enemies of present and the shadow of old.
